چکیده

We present a theory of second phase conductive filaments in phase transformable systems; applications include threshold switches, phase change memory, resistive memory, and shunting in thin film structures. We show that the average filament parameters can be described thermodynamically. In agreement with the published data, the predicted filament current-voltage characteristics exhibit negative differential resistance that vanishes at high currents where the current density becomes a bulk material property. Our description is extendible to filament transients and allows for efficient numerical simulation. VC 2011 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3592983]

Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Vaporization of Pbs From Complex Cu-Fe Mattes

Thermodynamics and kinetics of vaporization of lead sulfide from typical copper-smelting mattes of commercial interest are investigated in the temperature range 1388 K to 1573 K by vapor transport technique and plasma arc spectroscopy. The total mass of the dominant vaporizing species PbS that leaves the matte is described by the Newman's numerical solution to the second Fick's law combined wit...

Structure formation and generalized second law of thermodynamics in some viable f(R)-gravity models

We investigate the growth of matter density perturbations as well as the generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics in the framework of f(R)-gravity. We consider a spatially flat FRW universe filled with the pressureless matter and radiation which is enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon with the Hawking temperature. For some viable f(R) models containing the Starobinsky, Hu-Sawicki, Exp...

Structural reorganization of parallel actin bundles by crosslinking proteins: incommensurate states of twist.

We construct a coarse-grained model of parallel actin bundles crosslinked by compact globular bundling proteins, such as fascin and espin, necessary components of filopodial and mechanosensory bundles. Consistent with structural observations of bundles, we find that the optimal geometry for crosslinking is overtwisted, requiring a coherent structural change of the helical geometry of the filame...

A ug 1 99 6 Fragmentation Phase Transition in Atomic Clusters I — Microcanonical Thermodynamics —

The general features of Microcanonical Thermodynamics as applied to the fragmentation of atomic clusters are discussed. Here we first develop the thermodynam-ics of microcanonical phase transitions of first and second order in systems which are thermodynamically stable in the sense of van Hove. We show how both kinds of phase transitions can unambiguously be identified in small isolated systems...
